What is Perplexity?
Perplexity is an AI answer engine that searches the web to answer questions. For travel it offers Deep Research for constraint-aware day-by-day itineraries, hotel search you can refine in natural language with prices shown in the results, and hotel reservations from its iOS and Android apps. Hotel pages show traveller insights powered by Tripadvisor, and Perplexity Computer on Pro can build an itinerary with flights and hotels.
Cost: Free + paid plan (Paid from US$20 per month). Booking: You book in the same app. Works on: Web, iPhone, Android.
Best for: Researchers who want sourced answers on destinations and a day-by-day plan, with hotel search in the same app.
How Perplexity uses AI
Perplexity's models run web searches and synthesise travel guides, tourism data and recent visitor reports into answers and itineraries, and filter hotel results by dates and budget from a plain-language request.
Booking: You book in the same app.
Keep in mind
- Free plan has very limited Pro Searches and excludes Comet browser agent queries
- Pro Perks hotel discounts (Selfbook bookings) are limited to US-based Pro subscriptions and capped at USD 200 per booking
- Perplexity Computer is described as planning trips, not booking them
