What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is OpenAI's general-purpose AI assistant. For travel it can search the web, show places and local recommendations in ChatGPT Maps, call travel apps such as Booking.com and Expedia inside the chat, and search restaurant availability on OpenTable, Resy and Yelp. On Plus and Pro, ChatGPT Work's cloud browser can carry out tasks on websites, including bookings and payments, and is trained to ask for confirmation first.
Cost: Free + paid plan (Paid from US$8 per month). Booking: Books for you on paid plans. Works on: Web, Mac or Windows app, iPhone, Android.
Best for: People who already use ChatGPT and want research, itinerary drafting and partner-app searches in one chat.
How ChatGPT uses AI
The model answers travel questions using live web search, turns a request into searches inside connected travel apps, and in ChatGPT Work operates a cloud browser that reads, clicks and types on web pages to complete multi-step tasks.
Booking: Books for you on paid plans. Check who the seller is before you confirm: their change and refund rules apply to anything it books.
Keep in mind
- ChatGPT agent (agent mode) is no longer available; OpenAI points users to ChatGPT Work for multi-step tasks
- Cloud browsing in ChatGPT Work is not available on the Free or Go plans
- The Booking.com app searches stays and rental cars (its ChatGPT directory listing also mentions attractions) but sends you to Booking.com to complete the booking
- Restaurant reservation search is not available in voice conversations or in ChatGPT Work, and ChatGPT does not save, change or cancel reservations
- OpenAI says some apps may be unavailable in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland
Is ChatGPT free? Cost and plans
Free + paid plan. Free plan with limits; Go ($8/month) and Plus ($20/month) raise them, and Pro starts at $100/month. The cloud browser that ChatGPT Work uses for tasks on websites needs Plus or Pro; it is not on Free or Go.
