In beta

Launched on 17 November 2025 as a Search Labs experiment: desktop only, US only, for users opted in to the AI Mode experiment in Labs. Google's 27 August 2026 travel post says you can build a full itinerary in AI Mode but does not say whether Canvas trip planning has left Labs or expanded beyond the US.

What is Google AI Mode trip planning (Canvas)?

Google added trip planning with Canvas to AI Mode in Search on 17 November 2025. You describe the trip and what you want recommendations for, select 'Create Canvas', and a plan builds in a side panel that combines real-time flight and hotel data from Search, Google Maps details such as photos and reviews, and information from across the web. It can compare hotels by price and amenities and suggest restaurants and activities by travel time from your hotel; you can return to a plan later from your AI Mode history.

Cost: Free (No paid plan listed). Booking: Sends you to book elsewhere. Works on: Web, Inside Google Search (AI Mode).

Best for: US desktop users in Search Labs who want a first-draft itinerary with live flight and hotel options in one place.

How Google AI Mode trip planning (Canvas) uses AI

AI Mode turns a free-form trip description into a structured plan, weighs trade-offs you ask about (for example a hotel near brunch spots versus one near hiking trails) and updates the plan through follow-up questions.

Booking: Sends you to book elsewhere.

Keep in mind

  • As launched: desktop only, US only, and only for users opted in to the AI Mode experiment in Search Labs
  • Flights are bought on the airline's site or another booking platform; AI Mode does not complete flight purchases
  • Hotel booking inside AI Mode is a separate US rollout listed on its own

Is Google AI Mode trip planning (Canvas) free? Cost and plans

Free. No charge is mentioned; it is part of Google Search.
